Constraint Induced Therapy for Children

Children can have strokes or other insults to the brain that can lead to cerebral palsy, an umbrella term used to describe many injuries to the brain including those caused by infection, hypoxia, stroke, traumatic brain injury, etc.

These injures can lead to difficulties with one or more of the following: – movement, vision, sensation, and intellect. There are many different types of cerebral palsy. Each responds to different types of interventions.

At CI Therapy we are trained in different techniques to assist many different forms of CP. Children with unilateral hemiplegia and diplegia affecting the upper limbs can be helped using Constraint Induced Movement Therapy and Bi-Manual Therapy.
It is thought that doing this therapy early in the child’s life will maximize the development of the motor system and lead to improved abilities due to the neuroplasticity of the developing brain of the child.
Young children may be covered by Better Start funding to attend programmes before they are 7 years of age. See our funding page for information.
